Fars Province has long played a great role in shaping the Islamic-Iranian civilization, art and architecture, and a substantial part of our cultural heritage is located in this province.
These works have decorated all parts of this province in different ways from the Achaemenid and Sassanid eras to the flourishing of the Islamic era. Throughout its proud history, the city of Shiraz has nurtured worthy artists whose works have spread to even Samarkand and Bukhara.
As Iran had a relatively young population and had urgent need for new work, leisure and living spaces, and also with regard to the existence of outstanding and unique works of art, architecture and urban planning in Shiraz and in order to preserve and spread traditional arts, the department of Art and Architecture of started to operate in 1373 by accepting 25 students in associate degree at the Faculty of Literature and Humanities of Shiraz University. In October 1996, due to the lack of space and the scope of workshop activities, it was transferred to the Faculty of Engineering and operated as a subset of that faculty. In October 1998, the faculty became officially independent and the educational departments and various educational and student-cultural departments were formed and continued to operate independently. In September 2000, this Faculty moved to a beautiful building in Goldasht Ma'ali Abad, which was built by the efforts of Mr. Ahmad Nader Kazemi, a famous benefactor in Shiraz. The Faculty of Arts and Architecture currently has 717 students, of which 115 are graduate students and 602 are undergraduate students.
