Dr. Seyyed Hamed Rastgar, a faculty member in the Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering Department at Shiraz University, was the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the BRICS Young Scientists meeting.
According to the Public Relations Office of Shiraz University, the 9th Meeting of Young Scientists and the 7th Young Innovators Award of BRICS member countries took place from November 25 to 29, 2024, in Sochi, Russia. Representatives from Brazil, Russia, Iran, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia participated, with Dr. Rastgar delivering a presentation and managing the " Panel Discussion of Artificial Intelligence."
During the meeting, he presented a scientific talk titled "Optimal Management of IoT Infrastructure and Its Use in Smart Living." Dr. Rastgar mentioned that various challenges faced by BRICS member countries were discussed and facilitated exchanges on solutions and future collaborations.
He noted that Iran recently joined this organization and participated for the first time in this meeting. The selection process for representatives from Iran (with a maximum age limit of 40) was conducted through a call from the Vice Presidency for Scientific, Technological, and Knowledge-Based Economy in September 2024, leading to his selection in the field of communications and information technology.
Dr. Rastgar added that young representatives from member countries shared their achievements, solutions, and ideas during the meeting, along with panel discussions focused on emerging technologies and social and environmental challenges for discussion and solution development.
Additionally, he highlighted that bilateral meetings among representatives from various countries were held to explore potential opportunities and plan for scientific collaborations. Coordination for sending the Iranian delegation to this significant scientific, technological, and innovation event was facilitated by the Center for Transformation and Progress Cooperation of the Presidency, in collaboration with the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and the Knowledge-Based Economy. According to the coordination center's report, more than 100 young scientists and researchers from BRICS member countries gathered for this five-day event. The Iranian delegation consisted of eight young scientists and four innovators, with several panels managed by distinguished Iranian scientists.
