History of Shiraz University

As an Iranian frontend of innovation, Shiraz University was established in 1946 in Shiraz, a city of mankind civilization and literature. Consistently ranked Iran's second-best comprehensive university, Shiraz University has been able to represent itself as a pioneer in many areas, such as establishing new majors in doctoral programs and E-learning in Iran, establishment of the university's International Division and in contributing towards shaping the future of the country's development by making connections with industrial groups and the private sector.

During the years of 1949 till 1977, schools of Medicine, Agriculture, Arts, Science, Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Electronic, Education, and Law were established.

Presently, the university has about 17,000 students with 80 Bachelor's degree programs (B.A., B.Sc.), 183 Master's degree programs (M.A., M.Sc.), 102 Ph.D. programs, and one professional degree program (Doctor of Vet. M.).

Shiraz University is considered as a research-oriented academic institution which has about 700 faculty members with a significant percentage from world-class universities. This university has expanded its research horizon extensively in the areas such as reservoir engineering, solar energy, Nano-Technology, Bio-Technology and IT.

The main mission of Shiraz University is to enrich the society's intellectual, cultural, scientific, economic and environmental spheres. Shiraz University will try to remain one of the leading universities in Iran and will extend its educational activities globally.

This university is proud to be regarded as the hall of fame to a great number of Iranian scientists, politicians, economists, sociologists, engineers and entrepreneurs, with about 50% of the Islamic World Renowned Scholars being selected among them.
