پدر علم هیدروژئولوژی ایران با اعلام "در حال تشدید بحران آب هستیم" گفت: تأمین معیشت و توسعه بنیادین روستاهای کشور راه حل اساسی و بنیادی بحران آب است. 
عزت الله رئیسی پیش از ظهر امروز در همایش گرامیداشت روز مهندس ویژه مهندسان کشاورزی، منابع طبیعی و محیط زیست که در تالار همایش های شهر برگزار شد، با اشاره به مشکلات آب استان فارس اظهار داشت: باید علت اصلی را پیدا کرد چراکه تا زمانی که علت را پیدا نکنیم نمی توانیم مشکل را برطرف کنیم. وی یکی از دلایل کم آبی را مصرف بیش از اندازه آب از ذخایر دانست و افزود: اکنون اکثر دشت ها دچار بحران کم آبی شده و باید نیروی مازاد کشاورزی را جذب می کردیم که متأسفانه چنین نشده است، اکنون نیز با این عوامل در حال تشدید بحران آب هستیم. عضو هیئت علمی دانشگاه شیراز راجع به راه های برطرف شدن مشکلات بحران آب گفت: برداشت به اندازه آب از حجم کل آب ورودی به آبخوان، جبران آب های تخلیه شده از حداقل حجم ذخیره هیدرولیکی، نصب کنتور هوشمند و کاهش برداشت از آب زیرزمینی از جمله مواردی است که اگر به آنان توجه شود، بسیاری از مشکلات در این بخش برطرف می شود. رئیسی با اشاره درباره راه حل اساسی و بنیادی بحران آب بیان کرد: تأمین معیشت و توسعه بنیادین روستاهای کشور یکی از مسائل مهم است که تا این کار انجام نشود، در این بخش موفق نخواهیم شد. برای برطرف کردن بحران آب باید به برنامه توسعه و تأمین معیشت روستاهای کشور، یکپارچگی زمین، قانون برای دشت های بحرانی، هماهنگی و همکاری بین مدیران توجه ویژه ای داشته باشیم. تهدیدات اساسی استان فارس سید حمید مصباح، دیگر استاد دانشگاه شرکت کننده در این همایش عنوان کرد: اگر برنامه هایی که درباره برنامه های آب و خاک حتی مسائل اجتماعی داریم در وسعت استان نبینیم به نوعی به بی راه رفتن است. وی تخریب کوه ها، ناهنجاری های اجتماعی، آلودگی صوت، هوا، آب و خاک، ریزگردهای محلی، فروچاله و نشست، کاهش فضای سبز، شوری اراضی، کاهش سرانه آب و خشکسالی را از جمله تهدیدهای اساسی موجود در استان دانست. این استاد دانشگاه در خصوص علل تهدیدهای زیست محیطی شیراز نیز تصریح کرد: مهاجرت، حاشیه نشینی، توسعه گردشگری ناپایدار، توسعه باغ شهری ها برای عده ای خاص، توسعه تونل و بزرگ راه از جمله مسائلی است که در آینده مشکلاتی را برای شهر شیراز ایجاد می کند
