As reported by the Public Relations of Shiraz University, after restoration and repair the basement of the south side of Narenjestan-e Ghavam Garden Museum was assigned to the textile museum.
With the presence of officials from Shiraz University and the General Directorate of Fars Cultural Heritage, the opening ceremony of the textile museum was held on Thursday, March 16th, 2023.
According to engineer Hamidreza Konjani, the head of Narenjestan Museum, the project to restore the basement of the south side of Narenjestan-e Ghavam Museum's Garden started in 2018 with the efforts of Shiraz University; it has been put into operation with a credit amounting to 600 million Tomans.
Pointing out that the basement on the south side of Narenjestan-e Ghavam Museum Garden had not been restored for more than 50 years, he explained "The credit of this project has been spent on restoration, repair, lighting, and showcases".
The head of Narenjestan Museum announced that after completing the restoration project in Narenjestan Museum, we decided to dedicate this section to the Fabric Museum for the unveiling and displaying of fabrics found in this garden as well as other fabrics collected over the past years.
As reported by engineer Konjani, these fabrics, exhibited in the Narenjestan Fabric Museum's showcase today, with a number about 20 samples, have been collected from all over Iran over the years.
He stated that the collection includes very exquisite and valuable fabrics, which according to the researchers, most of them date back to the Qajar period based on preliminary investigations.
The head of Narenjestan Museum stated that these fabrics have a very beautiful and valuable design and role, and in addition to showing the art, technique, and skill of Iranian artisans in the past, they can also inspire artisans and artists active in the country's textile and clothing industry.
In the end, he invited his compatriots and foreign tourists to visit the Fabric Fair Museum in this place, especially during the Nowruz days, along with being in the Narenjestan-e Ghavam Museum Garden.
It should be noted that the management of the Narenjestan-e Ghavam Museum Garden is the responsibility of Shiraz University. The Qavam families were the governors of Fars and the founder of Narenjestan, and they lived in Iran during the Qajar era. The beautiful construction design of Narenjestan is one of the most beautiful architectural buildings in Shiraz. During the period of Qavam, the eastern part of the building was used as a school. In the architecture of Narenjestan, various Iranian and Islamic arts have been used. Arthur Pope was an American historian who came to Iran and turned his residence in Narenjestan-e Ghavam into the Asian Institute of Shiraz University.
