The application of mechanical engineering in different engineering sciences is such that none of these sciences can be imagined independently of mechanics. Graduates of mechanical engineering have always had a special place in industry. Many of them are currently working as industrial managers or active engineers in production or as faculty members of the scientific centers of the country and, with competence and creativity, they have been able to apply their engineering knowledge in the way of innovation, progress and development of the country in practice. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Shiraz University started in 1343 with the admission of undergraduate students and then, in 1348, accepted the first group of graduate students.

The doctoral program in mechanical engineering in Iran started for the first time in this faculty before the revolution, and after the revolution, along with other prestigious universities in Iran, this faculty re-established the doctoral program in 1991. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering currently has four departments of Solid Mechanical Engineering; Thermal and fluid mechanical engineering; Energy-aerospace engineering and nuclear engineering.
