Public Relations at Shiraz University reported that the joint Iranian-Italian delegation explored Parse of Persepolis for twelve seasons as part of the "From Palace to City" project, revealing a new perspective on the oldest Persian city in Iran.
In collaboration with ISMEO Institute, Persepolis World Heritage Site, and the Archaeological Research Institute of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, this great achievement is the result of 12 years of systematic exploration by faculty members and students of Shiraz University and the University of Bologna at one of the most important ancient sites of Parse city, known as the tegular hill. Despite the severe destruction of this ancient site, detailed and methodical excavations and rigorous documentation of the findings made it possible to reconstruct the original shape of this gate on a real scale.
As a result of these excavations, which were conducted under the joint supervision of Dr. Alireza Askari Chaverdi (a Shiraz University faculty member) and Prof. Pierfrancesco Callieri (a faculty member of the University of Bologna) from October 2, 2021, to December 5, 2021, in addition to revealing many parts of the building, the plan of this gate got drawn as a similar version of Babylon's Ishtar gate. Also, three pieces of cuneiform inscriptions in Elamite and Babylonian languages were found along with the patterned glazed bricks. Finally, the three-dimensional reconstructions of this building, the method of scientific interpretation, and documentary analysis of cultural and artistic values provided the memory of a magnificent gate in "Pardise Firuzi" of Parse city.
It bears mentioning that this project is the product of international cooperation between Iran and Italy in the field of cultural heritage and academic relations and the cooperation and support of the institutions of both countries, including the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism of Iran and related organizations, the Cultural Heritage Research Institute, the Archaeological Research Institute, the General Administration of World Heritage Sites, Shiraz University, University of Bologna, University of Urbino and International Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Studies in Rome (ISMEO).
