The Abū Rayḥān Birūnī Observatory was established in 1975 by Dr. Yousuf Sabuti in collaboration with Dr. Francis Ganin (Edward), and the activities of this center have continued more or less over the past three decades. Among the objectives of this research center are conducting professional research and observations in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Other activities at this center include teaching and training students, promoting and disseminating astronomical knowledge, alongside the aforementioned goals. The only astronomical center in Iran that can be compared to this observatory in terms of facilities and capabilities is the Khwaja Nasir al-Din al-Tusi Observatory at Tabriz University. The Abū Rayḥān Birūnī Observatory of Shiraz University is the most active observatory center in the country and the first observatory established in Iran after the Maragheh Observatory (8th century AH). It has so far held the top position among active and professional observatories in the field of astronomical research and observations.
