On Wednesday, 31 May, the 60th anniversary program of the Physics Department and commemorating Dr. Yousef Sobouti was held in the amphitheater of the Physics Department of Shiraz University.
According to the Public Relations Department of Shiraz University, during this event which was attended by the university board and a large group of academics and physicists of the country, Dr. Yousef Sobouti was honored for his lifetime scientific activities and valuable services to society.
Dr. Yousef Sobouti is an Iranian physicist and retired professor at Shiraz University. His activities at Shiraz University
have been the beginning of new developments in the Iranian higher education system. Founding Master and Ph.D. degrees in physics and planning the foundation of Aboureyhan Biruni Observatory are types of his activities at Shiraz University.
It should be noted that Shiraz University has been a pioneer in establishing and launching many of the scientific fields in the country, including triggering the MA and PhD degrees of physics for the first time in the country.
Aboureyhan Biruni Observatory is affiliated with Shiraz University, which is currently the most active center of astronomy in the country, and has so far played an important role in the field of research and professional activities of astronomy. The facilities and the good network of communication at the complex may be used by post graduate students in all parts of the country for their projects. Biruni Observatory has also a wide range of programs for international cooperation, supporting research groups, training and promotion of astronomy in addition to its specialized workshops and conferences. The observatory building is located at the top of Chamran hill, northeast of Shiraz, and It is connected by a road to the campus of Shiraz University.
