The Cognitive Sciences Laboratory at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology of Shiraz University was inaugurated on a significant cultural anniversary, marking a major milestone in cognitive research. Established with a substantial investment of over thirteen billion riyals, this laboratory was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Fars Elite Benefactors Association, Ramak Company, and the Cognitive Sciences and Technologies Council.
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including head-mounted and fixed-lens eye-tracking devices, 32- and 64-channel EEG recording devices, and neurological diagnostic and rehabilitation systems such as neurofeedback-biofeedback and tDCS. Other cognitive diagnostic and rehabilitation tools include IVA and Captains' Log. Dr. Masoud Fazalit-Pour, head of the Cognitive Sciences Laboratory, highlighted the significance of these technologies in advancing cognitive research.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Noorollah Mohammadi, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology, expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for Research of the University, the National Foundation of Elites, and the Elite Charitable Association of Fars, as well as the Board of Directors of Ramek Company, for their roles in establishing the laboratory. He emphasized the importance of cognitive sciences, stating, "Cognition is the most central issue in the field of human sciences; undoubtedly, since human life and society depend on brain functions, our knowledge of the brain and mind can have a significant impact on all aspects of human life."
Prof. Mohammadi continued, "Cognitive sciences are a set of interdisciplinary disciplines that study and investigate intelligence, mind, and brain functions. It is the human mind that can determine the acceleration of technology, culture, and planning." He noted that cognitive sciences encompass fields such as philosophy of mind, artificial intelligence, linguistics, anthropology, cognitive neuroscience, and cognitive psychology, with wide applications in various fields.
The Dean described the opening of the Cognitive Sciences Laboratory as the beginning of a large project, stating, "We need to have a center or institute of cognitive sciences where we can create new fields and organize cognitive discourse by attracting master's and doctoral students." He thanked the university's board of directors for their support and asked university officials to provide necessary support for the establishment of the Cognitive Sciences Center.
The head of the National Foundation of Fars Elites expressed gratitude to Dr. Hosseinchari and Dr. Shamshiri, former deans of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology, for their early proposal to establish the laboratory. He noted that part of the costs were covered with the help of Ramak Company and the Foundation for Elites in Fars Province.
Prof. Habib Sharif highlighted the role of the Fars Elites Benefactors Association in supporting talented students and contributing to the university and society. He mentioned the cooperation with Ramak Company, particularly the Nasiri brothers, as a significant factor in their achievements.
Mohammad Kazem Nasiri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ramak Company, expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the Cognitive Science Laboratory, viewing it as a success for the company's social responsibility efforts.
At the end of the ceremony, the President of Shiraz University noted that the establishment of laboratories requires time and effort, reflecting the nature of scientific work. He emphasized the importance of the scientific and spiritual capital of the university, including its faculty members, and highlighted the cooperation between Ramak Company and the Fars Elite Charitable Association as an example of the growing partnership between universities and society.
Prof. Nadgaran concluded by emphasizing Shiraz University's goal to become an entrepreneurial and community-oriented institution, solving societal problems through collaboration with private sectors. He encouraged further dialogue between universities and private sectors to address mutual challenges.
The program concluded with the appreciation of the Nasiri brothers by Shiraz University and the National Foundation of Fars Elites, followed by the official opening of the Cognitive Science Laboratory.
