Faculty of Agriculture


The faculty of Agriculture was founded as one of the academic educational units of Shiraz University in 1334. The courses were initially taught primarily by visiting professors invited from other universities in Iran. In 1340, the faculty moved to its present location (Bajgah, 15 km northwest of Shiraz). In 1348, the administrative and educational buildings of the faculty were inaugurated in Bajgah and all the structures of this educational institution (the whole system) were moved to the new location. This faculty currently has 11 active educational departments and several research centers offering various graduate and undergraduate study programs.

Employing experienced professors, well-equipped laboratories, and different welfare facilities have made this faculty one of the leading educational and research centers in the nation and in the region (Middle East). The facilities include 4 dormitories for boys on the campus and several suitable dormitories in Shiraz for girls, a self-service, a mosque, a swimming pool, a football field, a basketball court, a volleyball court, an indoor sports hall, a computer center and fiber optic network, a telecommunication center, a bank, a shopping center, an emergency room, a student reproduction and publishing center, all in a beautiful environment with clean air. The library of this faculty started its activity in 1341, with nearly two thousand volumes of books, and currently has 10713 volumes of Persian books and 16097 volumes of Latin books. This library is currently operating under the title "Martyr Mofteh Library".

Due to the need for using new technologies in agriculture and training specialized personnel who are capable of changing traditional agricultural patterns to scientific methods, as well as the existence of valuable natural resources and potential agricultural lands in Fars and southern provinces, the Faculty of Agriculture of Shiraz University started working and higher education in the field of agricultural sciences in 1334 to realize  the existing potentials.

This faculty first started to train specialized forces in a small rented place located in Shiraz city. In 1340, by employing specialized forces in various fields of agricultural sciences, most of whom were graduates of prestigious universities in the world, the faculty was moved to 15 km north of Shiraz (its current location). The Faculty of Agriculture of Shiraz University has gone through many ups and downs during its sixty years of life and it has always stood out as one of the centers of science and agricultural education not only in Iran but also in the region and the world since it was founded. Education combined with research and experience has been one of the main missions and an integral part of the Faculty of Agriculture throughout its activity and has provided valuable service to Iranian agriculture in this way.

High educational standards, training of specialized personnel required by the executive, research and educational organizations of the country, conducting up-to-date research, production and publication of scientific articles in world-class journals, close collaboration with public and private organizations and institutions related to agricultural sciences, and carrying out research projects are among the main features characterizing the Faculty of Agriculture of Shiraz University.

Today, this faculty has reached maturity and prosperity, and by using its reserves and abilities in the field of higher education, it is trying to solve the problems of the agricultural sector and is seeking to further expand its global position as an international scientific reference in education and research by creating suitable scientific contexts to attract students from countries in the region and the world.

Undoubtedly, this faculty owes its scientific and educational position to the honest professors and staff who, during its sixty years of life, with self-sacrifice and all-out efforts, have turned the young seedlings of the faculty into a big tree.
