A series of joint academic webinars between Shiraz University and Saint Petersburg Mining University of Russia will be held in order to enhance educational and research collaborations between the two universities.
According to the Public Relations' liaison of Shiraz University, the first session of this webinar series was held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, featuring the presentation of Dr. Hamed Aghaei, a faculty member of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Shiraz University.
Dr. Mohammadhossein Sheikhi, Research Director and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Technology at Shiraz University, commented on the origin and mission of the joint webinars between Shiraz University and the Saint Petersburg Mining University: "Following the cooperation agreement between Shiraz University and Saint Petersburg Mining University, which aims to enhance international cooperation between Shiraz University and Russian universities following the official visit of the Chancellor of Shiraz University to Russia, we decided to hold these joint webinars to formally introduce our two universities to one another in terms of our research and science capacities."
Dr. Sheikhi further elaborated that "while promoting the event, we appraised the potentials and suggestions from faculty members across the university, and have therefore organized eight academic webinars featuring researchers and professors from the faculties of Chemical Engineering, Oil and Gas, and the Sciences, in particular the Department of Geology."
According to Shiraz University research administration, these webinars will be a point of departure for networking between professors and students of the two universities so that they may benefit from each other's capacities in future collaborations between Shiraz University and Saint Petersburg Mining University. As Dr. Sheikhi noted: "The webinar topics have been aligned according to the active research interests at Saint Petersburg Mining University, mainly in the fields of geology and Mining."
It is worth noting that Saint Petersburg Mining University is one of the oldest and most advanced universities in the Russian Federation, with a history of more than 250 years. The university has made ambitious plans to develop science and technology with regard to the extraction of natural resources, such as mining, oil, and gas, as well as the surplus value of human resources.
