The Iranian Cultural Association arranged a night of celebration in the memory of Khayyam, the famous Persian poet, where Dr. K. Hassanli spoke a few words to highlight the significance of Khayyam’s poetry and ideology filled with beauty and meaning.
The professor of Persian literature at Shiraz University stated that the picture we have of Khayyam today is far from reality and different schools of thought intervened with Khayyam’s ideology throughout history.
Dr. Hassanli then counted out the most prominent features of Khayyam’s ideology:
- Proposed essential questions of our existence
- Questioning common beliefs about religion
- A feeling of distaste and disregard for this mortal world
- Advising human beings to live in the moment
There was also some questions from the audience who had attended the ceremony which Dr. Hassanli answered. It should be noted that this was the last item on Dr. Hassanli’s schedule in his visit to Australia.
