Shiraz was nominated in 1977 as a world city of handicrafts.

It is worth mentioning that one of the indicators of choosing the nominated city is the status of handicrafts and related fields such as carpets and arts in the higher education centers of that city.

On December 17th, evaluators of the World Crafts Council visited the handicrafts and carpet workshops of the Shiraz University School of Fine Arts and Architecture, and evaluated the status and equipment of the workshops, students and professors positively.

Iran holds the first position among the other countries in the world with 11 cities and 3 world villages with a total of 14 world crafts cities and villages.

On this list, China holds the second position with 7 world crafts cities and villages.
