In line with the previous negotiations with officials from the French University of Poitiers, a joint MoU was signed as a commencement to a series of joint collaborations in different fields of research, starting from the SU Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. This MoU, which was signed by the Chancellor of Shiraz University and the President of the University of Poitiers was mainly concentrated on expanding joint scientific and educational cooperation via student and staff mobility, joint educational programs and joint research.

Dr Najjari, SU faculty member, first gave an introduction to the university, and Dr Nadgaran, SU Chancellor, illustrated the potentials for joint international collaboration. Dr Nadgaran insisted on the prominent status of Shiraz University as a major Iranian university being initially established to act as an international higher education institution and stated that both sides have a lot to offer to the other side. He also added that, despite all barriers standing in the way of internationalization programs, there are still opportunities available and officials at the SU and the Iranian MSRT are fully committed to provide as much aid as possible for that purpose.

The President of the University of Poitiers also introduced French the university, counting it as a university which is recognized nationally, with a geopolitical mindset to develop academic international relations. Dr Yves Jean also added that interdisciplinary fields of study are high motivations for them in expanding international relations and called upon all university professors and scholars to play their part in maintaining a balanced relationship between all nations.

This meeting was also attended by Dr Loïc Michel Levoyer, Vice-President of the University of Poitiers, Dr Nematollah Jafari, faculty member of the University of Poitiers, Dr J. Tashkgourian, Director of the SU Chancellor’s Office and the Director of Public Relations, and also, Dr E. Abbasi, Dr S. Ebrahimi, Dr H. Najjari, SU faculty members.

There was also an arrangement to establish a new interdisciplinary field of study at SU under the subject “Legal Crime Psychiatry” and with the assistance of the University of Poitiers and the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.
